The Executive Committee of the Czech Curling Association Discussed Its Position on the Possible Return of Russian Athletes

23. 7. 2026

The Executive Committee of the Czech Curling Association has discussed its position regarding the potential participation of Russian athletes and teams in competitions organized by the World Curling Federation (WCF).

The WCF is currently consulting its member associations on the possible return of Russian athletes to international competitions. The discussion follows the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which allows the participation of individual neutral athletes under specific conditions.

The Executive Committee does not support the return of Russian national teams to WCF competitions under the current circumstances. Should the WCF decide to allow Russian athletes to compete, the Czech Curling Association believes their participation should take place strictly under a neutral status. The Executive Committee also highlighted practical implications for tournaments held in the Czech Republic. Currently Russian citizens are not being granted with visas for the purpose of participating in sporting events. Therefore, if Russian athletes were included in competitions hosted in the Czech Republic, they would not be able to obtain the necessary visas and thus could not take part in the tournaments. The Czech Curling Association considers this an important factor that the WCF should take into account in its decision-making.
