4. 3. 2026

Ostrava has been officially confirmed as the host city of the Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships 2026.

The championship will take place from 27 October to 1 November 2026 at the RT Torax Arena.

This will be the first edition of the European Championships held under the new World Curling competition structure for the 2026–2030 Olympic cycle.

The stand‑alone event will feature the ten best European women’s teams from the previous World Championship, supplemented by the host nation Czechia, and the ten best European men’s teams, likewise determined by the results of the most recent World Championship. The teams will be divided into two groups and will play a round‑robin format within their groups.

RT Torax Arena opened in 1977. The multi‑purpose sports venue is located in Ostrava‑Poruba and is primarily used for ice hockey, serving as the home arena of HC RT Torax Poruba. The complex includes two ice sheets and has a capacity of approximately 3,000 spectators.

Eeva Roethlisberger, Head of Competitions at World Curling, said:
“We are excited to bring the Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships to Ostrava this autumn. This will be the first time a World Curling championship is held in this city, and we are proud to work with a host that has consistently shown a strong commitment to our sport.”

Lenka Hronová, Event Director of the Local Organising Committee, added:
“We are thrilled that the Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships will take place in the Czech Republic for the very first time — and right here in Ostrava. A brand‑new curling facility opened here last year, kick‑starting the development of a strong curling community in the region. We believe that successfully hosting the European Championship, which will bring players, fans, and visitors from across Europe and the world, will play a key role in establishing Ostrava as a new curling city and raising awareness of the sport throughout Czechia.”

Karolína Frederiksen, President of the Czech Curling Association, added:
“We greatly appreciate the support of the city of Ostrava and the Moravian‑Silesian Region, and we look forward to the championship in Ostrava — a city known for its hospitality and its strong passion for sports.”
