Undefeated through both the regular and playoff stages, Sofie Krupičková and Ondřej Blaha have claimed their third consecutive national title – once again proving their dominance in the junior mixed doubles category. Last year, they also made their debut at the World Junior Mixed Doubles Championship, a newly introduced event by the World Curling Federation. Held in Edmonton, Canada, the tournament offered an unforgettable atmosphere and a lifetime experience. How do they reflect on the recent national championship, and what lies ahead in the coming months? Ondřej Blaha shares his thoughts.
Three titles in a row – how does that feel? Was the tournament tough, and how strong were the opponents?
It feels amazing – any title would be a great achievement, and we’re really happy. We truly enjoyed the tournament and appreciated the chance to face several new and strong teams.
There’s no official word yet on where the next World Championship will be held. What was it like playing in Canada at the very first world event in this category?
From what I’ve heard, it looks like it might be held in Canada again, but nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
Representing the Czech Republic at the WJMDCC in Canada was a huge honor. It’s hard to put the experience into words, but if I had to try, I’d say it was an incredible atmosphere, a major learning opportunity, and an unforgettable experience.
You both also play traditional four-person team curling. What do you enjoy about mixed doubles, and what will you focus on before heading to the championship?
Personally, I love the precision and angles in mixed doubles. Analyzing the situation to find the best way to use the stones in play is always a great challenge, no matter who we’re up against.
We definitely want to work on the mental side of the game. We started focusing on that last season before Worlds, and I think it could really help us even more this year.
Do you have a specific goal or placement in mind?
Setting a concrete goal right now would be very ambitious. There’s still a lot of work ahead, and we’ll see how we feel closer to the championship. Of course, we’re aiming for the best possible result.
You’re still unsure if the championship will be held in Canada again. If you could choose, where would you like to play?
Personally, I’d love to go back to South Korea. The culture there is amazing, and I’d be thrilled to experience it again.
