{"id":41076,"date":"2026-03-04T17:53:59","date_gmt":"2026-03-04T16:53:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curling.cz\/?p=41076"},"modified":"2026-04-07T18:17:38","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T16:17:38","slug":"ostrava-will-host-the-2026-european-curling-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curling.cz\/en\/ostrava-will-host-the-2026-european-curling-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"Ostrava will host the 2026 European Curling Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>Ostrava has been officially confirmed as the host city of the Le Gruy\u00e8re AOP European Curling Championships 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The championship will take place from 27 October to 1 November 2026 at the RT Torax Arena.<\/p>\n<p>This will be the first edition of the European Championships held under the new World Curling competition structure for the 2026\u20132030 Olympic cycle.<\/p>\n<p>The stand\u2011alone event will feature the ten best European women\u2019s teams from the previous World Championship, supplemented by the host nation Czechia, and the ten best European men\u2019s teams, likewise determined by the results of the most recent World Championship. The teams will be divided into two groups and will play a round\u2011robin format within their groups.<\/p>\n<p>RT Torax Arena opened in 1977. The multi\u2011purpose sports venue is located in Ostrava\u2011Poruba and is primarily used for ice hockey, serving as the home arena of HC RT Torax Poruba. The complex includes two ice sheets and has a capacity of approximately 3,000 spectators.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eeva Roethlisberger, Head of Competitions at World Curling, said:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cWe are excited to bring the Le Gruy\u00e8re AOP European Curling Championships to Ostrava this autumn. This will be the first time a World Curling championship is held in this city, and we are proud to work with a host that has consistently shown a strong commitment to our sport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lenka Hronov\u00e1, Event Director of the Local Organising Committee, added:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cWe are thrilled that the Le Gruy\u00e8re AOP European Curling Championships will take place in the Czech Republic for the very first time \u2014 and right here in Ostrava. A brand\u2011new curling facility opened here last year, kick\u2011starting the development of a strong curling community in the region.
